About

I kept notes on every piece I bought for ten years. The boutique grew out of those notes.

Mist42 started in 2019 out of frustration with what was available in the Japanese lingerie market: either mass-produced basics with no attention to cut, or imported luxury pieces that arrived in sizes that bore no relation to the measurements on the label. Long before the boutique opened, there were buying notes from small European ateliers: which fabrics held their shape, which lace patterns stayed soft after washing, and which sizing charts could actually be trusted. The boutique grew out of those notes.

The story behind Mist42
02

The first collection launched with fourteen pieces, all sourced from a small manufacturer in Portugal that we had been corresponding with for two years. The early months were slow, with most orders coming from friends and a handful of customers who found the site through word of mouth. The turning point came in spring 2021, when a Tokyo-based fashion writer included Mist42 in a round-up of independent lingerie boutiques worth knowing. Traffic tripled overnight, and the waiting list for the sheer mesh bodysuit that was featured stayed open for three months. That moment clarified what the boutique was for: women who had already decided they wanted something specific, and just needed to find it.

What sets us apart
01Fabric first

Every set we carry is assessed for its material before anything else. Stretch lace, silk-touch microfibre, and sheer mesh are chosen for how they feel against skin, not just how they photograph.

02Sizing that makes sense

We stock XS through 3XL across the full collection. Size guides are written by us, not copied from a manufacturer sheet, and we update them when we find discrepancies.

03Discreet packaging

Every order leaves in a plain outer box with no brand markings. The inner packaging is tissue-wrapped and sealed. Nothing on the outside hints at what is inside.

04Honest curation

We do not carry everything. If a style does not hold up after a few wears, we remove it. The collection stays small enough that we can stand behind every piece in it.
